"MSI, like I've said many times before, always includes
a great bundle with their graphics cards, adding more value
to their product with every additional bundled item, with overall
value being a very important factor in consumer's purchasing
decisions in the mid-ranged performance market."

“The MSI FX5200-TDR128 is a really nice product. All
of the features with the support for the new games is a bonus
when one considers that the card is just over $100. Though there
are not many games that are optimized for use only with DX9,
the card should do well until there are games released. Even
if the card is not used for gaming, it is still a good piece
of hardware for the consumer who wants to or does use their
computer as their home multimedia center. Hats off to MSI for
making a nice product.“

"Now aside from performance, this card also comes with
the MSI package - one of the best bundles Legit Reviews has
seen to date; especially with MSI's Media Center II Deluxe +
Remote Controller! The MSI bundle gives you everything you need
to start using this card to its fullest ability. "
"To give a quick recap: MSI's FX5200-TDR128 offers the
newest technology (DirectX 9 support, TV-out, etc), a great
package (10 3D games, about 20 different kinds of software and
utilities, Remote Controller, etc), and respectable performance
all in a budget-level video card. So if you are stuck with a
GeForce 4 MX440, or lower, and you want to upgrade so you will
have full DirectX 8 and 9 support without breaking the bank,
then this just may be the card for you! " |

More
Bandwidth Means More Games
All the pixel-pushing power in the world won't really benefit
a GPU if it cannot be supplied with enough memory bandwidth.
Now today's high-end cards employ both antialiasing and anisotropic
filtering. The need for consistently high FPS with massive AA
and AF is where it's at. The GeForce FX 5900 GPUs uses sophisticated
bandwidth-saving techniques in the form of improved Z, color,
and texture compression. However, even with these in place,
the bandwidth requirements of high FSAA and anisotropic filtering
still exact a heavy toll on usable bandwidth.
With a 256-bit wide memory interface, the GeForce FX 5900 GPUs
double the path to and from memory and enable twice the amount
of data to be transferred per cycle. The wider path of this
new memory interface and controller increases overall performance
and efficiency for memory transfers and allocations. |

Anisotropic
Filtering and Antialiasing
The FX 5900 GPUs also boasts what NVIDIA terms Intellisample
HCT technology, which delivers the next step in performance
and visual quality, compression color, texture, and z data.
The Intellisample HCT technology leverages the memory bandwidth
efficiency techniques and image quality technologies of the
original Intellisample and maximizes its effectiveness for the
new 256-bit memory architecture. Intellisample HCT adds the
industry’s most advanced texture, color and z-compression
algorithms, for up to 4:1 lossless compression of these prominent
bandwidth-crippling 3D functions. Previous versions of Intellisample
technology insured pristine image quality by determining when
texture, color and z could be compressed without losing image
quality based on several factors. Intellisample HCT technology
has special algorithms that increase the likelihood for successful
compression of texture, color and z.
Furthermore, this new technology introduces improved antialiasing
techniques and advanced anisotropic filtering algorithms. NVIDIA
Intellisample HCT includes a “quality” mode that
delivers true anisotropic filtering and that allows programmers
to achieve unmatched visual clarity for every portion of the
scene, even difficult areas representing surfaces viewed from
a sharp angle or from a distance.
Intellisample HCT technology also applies advanced techniques
including a crossbar memory architecture, advanced texture caching,
the most advanced algorithm for z-culling, and fast z-clears
to make the most out of the available memory bandwidth.

CineFX
2.0 Engine
NVIDIA also made advances with its vertex and pixel shader engines,
making the jump from CineFX 1.0 to CineFX 2.0. CineFX 2.0 still
features vertex and pixel processing engines with support for
long shader programs and advanced programming techniques, but
doubles the performance of floating point pixel shading operations
over the GeForce FX 5800 Ultra. CineFX 2.0 offers the maximum
color accuracy and most accurate shader precision available
and does not have to "approximate" 128-bit operations
and "bloat" the results. CineFX also supports 16-
or 32-bit floating point or integer instructions for legacy
titles. |

Vertex
Shaders 2.0+
With the CineFX engine, vertex-processing capabilities are greatly
expanded while programming complexity is greatly reduced, giving
game developers the power to achieve any effect imaginable.
Fully generalized loops and branches can be data-dependent,
giving the CineFX engine a much more straightforward programming
methodology than previous architectures. One shader can be written
to encompass all the skinning methods and operations, and since
the shader can branch on a per-vertex basis, it is not required
to break up the model. With these advances, the CineFX engine
shatters previous vertex shading limitations. |

Pixel
Shaders 2.0+
The NVIDIA CineFX engine raises
pixel shading to a first-class programmable citizen of the graphics
pipeline, and gives developers a host of new capabilities for
controlling pixels and producing effects that are only limited
by the imagination. |

True
128-bit Precision
GeForce FX continues to be the only GPU family to offer true
128-bit full floating-point color through out the pipeline
for vivid, life-like images with the same dynamic range and
subtle changes in hues that are prevalent in feature films.

Unified
Driver Architecture
GeForce FX GPUs benefit from the industry's only truly Unified
Driver Architecture (UDA), long considered the gold standard
for software drivers. In addition, GeForce FX GPUs mark the
third generation of NVIDIA nView multi-display technology and
the third generation of NVIDIA Digital Vibrance Control for
matching colors when using more than one display. GeForce FX
GPUs also support Microsoft's Video Mixing Renderer (VMR) solution
for state-of-the-art video quality and multiple active video
streams that fully leverage the power of the graphics engine. |

UltraShadow
Technology
This is going to be the main seller for the GeForce FX 5900
GPUs. New multiple shadow rendering is going to make games ultra
realistic. With copies of the leaked Doom III beta circulating
around the web, people who have tried to play it on their decked
out gaming systems have experienced massively slow frame rates
due to the enormous amounts of shadows being used. The NVIDIA
UltraShadow technology allows game engines with multiple shadow
passes calculated from multiple light sources, for example next-generation
titles such as Doom III, to do the needed calculations and render
those shadows much faster and efficiently.

Users might ask why process shadows when you really just want
to play the game? The thing is game engines are becoming more
sophisticatedly real, incorporating every 3D physical aspect
in real life and rendering it on your 2D monitor. Accurate shadows
are the key in making realistic and believable 3D scenes on
your 2D monitor. The complex interactions between multiple light
sources and numerous objects and characters involve multiple-pass
programming. For every frame, every light source must be analyzed
relative to every object. The patent-pending UltraShadow technology
can be applied to today's games to introduce stunning visual
effects that create distinctive looks and digital environments,
that can set a game apart from the competition. |

Graphics
Quality
NVIDIA released preview pictures of the real time demos, which
also shown at this year's E3 show. These pictures are stills
illustrating the level of graphics quality the GeForce FX 5900
GPUs can achieve with fluid frame rates at high resolutions.
Vulcan: God of Fire demo
This demo shows off realistic fire, smoke, and glow using volumetric
texturing and render-to-texture techniques and uses multiple
light sources and skin shading using true Blinn Phong shaders.
Dusk: Dawn's twin!
Nvidia first introduced Dawn to show off their cinematic shading
and high quality features. Now they're showing off Dusk, Dawn's
twin sister. Dusk features realistic sking using a custom fragment
shader with shadowing, diffuse, specular colour, bump, and a
subsurface scattering effect. Her hair is entirely made from
geometry thanks to the performance delivered by the FX 5900's
vertex shaders.
